Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are not a team that is expected to compete. They have made the postseason just one time since drafting Karl-Anthony Towns with the No. 1 overall pick back in 2015.

Despite a five-year, $158.3 million extension signed back in 2019, Towns was mentioned in NBA trade rumors as being unhappy with the franchise. It’s easy to see why he wouldn’t be the happiest with the franchise at all times given how unsuccessful the team has been.

This means that the big man could want to play for a contender. There were talks of the Knicks being interested because it would be close to home for Karl-Anthony Towns. That would not send Towns to a contender. This is where the Mavericks could come into play. They would be able to send Minnesota a franchise player along with some first-round draft capital.

At 25-years old, Kristaps Porzingis has plenty of years left if he is able to stay on the floor. He has shown that he is an elite talent when healthy. This is something the Timberwolves could look to team up with players like Russell and Edwards for the future.

Minnesota is in a position where they need to load up on draft capital in hopes of rebuilding. If they are able to land some quality players and picks in a trade, the process could speed up a bit.
