Why This Trade Would Benefit The Detroit Pistons
The season is already lost for the Detroit Pistons. They are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference with no signs of moving up. Jerami Grant has been great on the offensive end but the team has had trouble putting it together. This could lead the front office toward a larger rebuild.
The Pistons drafted Killian Hayes with the seventh-overall pick in this year’s draft. He was named the starting point guard but suffered an injury that will keep him out for the foreseeable future. This hindered the team’s progress as they were hoping to develop some of their younger players for the future.
In a rebuilding phase, it is important for teams like the Pistons to load up on assets moving forward. That is what they would be doing in this deal in the form of prospects and draft picks.
As good is Jerami Grant has been, he signed a three-year deal which means he was be a short-term player. He might not be a piece for the future and if he’s not, it would be smart of the Pistons to trade him while his value is high.
