Why This Trade Would Benefit The New Orleans Pelicans

JJ Redick signed a free agent deal with the New Orleans Pelicans last offseason. He was paid well but the fit just did not make sense from the beginning. At this point in his career, Redick as a player who wants to play for a contending team in hopes of winning a championship.

The Pelicans are quite the opposite. They are a rebuilding group with hopes of getting younger over the next few years. This was made clear when they traded Jrue Holiday and it could continue when JJ Redick and potentially Lonzo Ball are sent away.

Both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are looking like the real deal in the NBA and this gives fans hope moving forward. If the return is an intriguing prospect in the first-round pick, the deal is a no-brainer for the Pelicans.

JJ Redick will not be re-signing in free agency next year so it makes sense for the Pelicans to trade him before getting nothing in return. It will be interesting to see which deal they end up taking because there will certainly be plenty of offers at the NBA trade deadline.
