Boston Celtics Receive: JJ Redick

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Carsen Edwards, 2021 1st Round Pick

This would not be the blockbuster deal that fans hope for at the NBA trade deadline but that is not something to the Boston Celtics need to happen. It would also put the $28.5M trade exception to use that they gained from the Gordon Hayward sign-and-trade transaction.

The Celtics need three-point help to surround players like Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown, and would benefit greatly from a veteran player like JJ Redick. This would not be expensive because of his contract situation as he is currently playing on an expiring deal.

The Pelicans could ask for Carsen Edwards and a first-round pick back in exchange for JJ Redick. The first-round pick would be low in around but that would not matter for a rebuilding team. Edwards is an intriguing prospect that would be able to grow and get more playing time in New Orleans.

Let’s take a look at how this deal would benefit both sides in the immediate future.
