Rudy Gay – San Antonio Spurs

Since joining the Spurs before the 2017-18 season, Rudy Gay is a veteran player who does not get enough credit. It seems like everyone has forgotten about him, yet he is still getting buckets in San Antonio and has a lot to give to a championship caliber team.

Over the course of his now 15-year NBA career, Rudy Gay has always been labeled as one of those guys you know what you are going to get with and he is just a baller. The guy can score from virtually anywhere on the court and over the course of his career, has averaged double-digit scoring every single year.

At 34-years old now, Rudy Gay knows his role as a veteran bench player and with the Miami Heat, he could be a lot like Shane Battier during the Heat’s championship runs in 2012 and 2013, but better. Not only would he be one of the first guys off-the-bench for the Heat, but he is more than capable of playing 20+ minutes per game still.

In 17 games with San Antonio this year, Rudy Gay has not started a single game, but has still scored in double-figures in 11 games. He is a very valuable veteran to have and while he is owed $14M this season, the Heat could ultimately make a trade for him work.

Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk and Meyers Leonard are three guys who could be included in a trade for Rudy Gay given that they are all owed close to the same as the Spurs forward. Who knows what the Spurs would want in return for Gay, but with him being older and on an expiring contract, they may be willing to negotiate a deal for him.

Out of all the low-cost, high-reward players the Heat could target this season, Rudy Gay is definitely at the top of the list and is the best bench player they could add to their roster. He is a leader, a proven scorer and a veteran who is more than capable of pulling his weight on a championship caliber team.
