Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Dallas Mavericks
Right now, the Mavericks just need production from anyone, which is why trading away Dorian Finney-Smith would not be hard for them to do. He has scored in double-figures just 5 times this season and has not been much of a threat from three-point range.
His lack of production on the offensive-end of the court has put even more pressure on Luka Doncic to carry this team, which will not get the Mavericks far at all come playoff time, if they even make the playoffs at this rate! Getting a guy like Cedi Osman is a must for the Mavericks because of what he brings to the table on offense.
This season, Cedi Osman is averaging 12.9 points per game and is shooting nearly 36.2% from three-point range. He is not the most gifted scorer and will not put up All-Star like numbers, but he is a very solid role player that could easily be the Mavs third or fourth-best scorer. At the very least, he’d help space the floor for Luka Doncic.
Giving up rookie Josh Green would be a difficult decision for the Mavericks front-office, especially since they are very high on him moving forward, but this team needs to focus on the now rather than the future because there won’t be much of a future if they continue to lose games at the rate they are.
Luka Doncic is a legit MVP candidate and Kristaps Porzingis possesses the skills to be an NBA All-Star type talent, but this team is missing the supporting cast around these two to be a legit threat in the West.
Acquiring Cedi Osman should not be the only move the Mavs look to make before the NBA trade deadline, but it is definitely a step in the right direction and gives them a young player who can produce on the wing for years to come.
