Dwight Howard
Landing Dwight Howard would be the best scenario for the Brooklyn Nets, but it would be hard to convince the 76ers to trade him. This past offseason, Philly signed Howard to a veteran’s minimum contract after just winning a championship with the Lakers and being an impact player for them.
Now, Philadelphia hopes to replicate his success this season and use Howard as a weapon off-the-bench in efforts to win a championship of their own. So far this season, the future Hall-of-Fame big man has played his role perfectly and when Joel Embiid was out, Howard stepped up in a big way.
In three games without Embiid this year, Howard is averaging 9.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.0 block and is shooting about 68% from the floor. With a frontcourt of DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard, the Nets would have two former All-Star players who are more than capable of dominating the paint and know what it takes to win.
Neither of these guys are high-level talents anymore, but are great team players and would be a perfect frontcourt duo to complement Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. As mentioned before though, there is no telling of what Philadelphia would want in exchange for Howard.
Brooklyn would most likely have to be willing to part ways with versatile veteran Jeff Green and most likely a bench guy like Bruce Brown, as well as a second-round pick. Even with this offer, the 76ers may still hold off on making a trade involving Dwight Howard because of the impact he can have for them.
Given Joel Embiid’s injury history through the years, having a guy like Dwight Howard is extremely important for the Philadelphia 76ers, especially given their hot start to the year. Landing Dwight Howard would be the best trade the Nets could make near the trade deadline, but it seems like a stretch for them to be able to land the 8x All-Star.
