Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Los Angeles Clippers
So far this season, the Los Angeles Clippers are one of only two teams shooting above 40% from three-point range, but their overall offensive productivity is very mediocre. With Patrick Beverley in the game and either Kawhi Leonard or Paul George on the bench, this team seems to be pretty stagnant on the offensive end of the court and does not have many reliable bench players they can turn to and feel comfortable with.
George Hill can absolutely be a security blanket for this team in the second-unit and fplay alongside Lou Williams or Patrick Beveley in the backcourt given that he is a bigger and lengthier guard. His three-point shooting is definitely a plus to the Clippers roster, but it is his overall understanding of the game that can be a major asset in their efforts to make it to the NBA Finals.
The Clippers are one of the oldest teams in the entire NBA and while getting a 34-year old veteran may not be ideal for the future of the franchise, George Hill knows what it takes to win games now and his high basketball IQ is something that should be treasured around the league.
Trading away Ivica Zubac would definitely be a bold thing to do on the Clippers end, as he is one of their only youthful players on the roster and a very reliable big man, but Los Angeles has Serge Ibaka under contract next year and also just drafted Daniel Oturu 33rd overall.
Trading Zubac definitely means that this team would likely have a smaller lineup with their second-unit, as Marcus Morris or Patrick Patterson could wind up playing the center position at times.
If Los Angeles truly want to have a shot at dethroning the Lakers in the Western Conference, then they need to not just add depth to their backcourt, but a very reliable and smart veteran guard like George Hill, who can immediately contribute and not have to get accustomed to any type of system. Hill knows what it takes to win and can help the Clippers do so immediately.
