Why This Trade Would Benefit The Oklahoma City Thunder
As the Boston Celtics have shown, it’s very difficult to use a substantial amount of NBA Draft selections within a short period of time. The Oklahoma City Thunder will be facing this situation during the next few years as they have 18 first-round picks to work with.
The main struggle for the Thunder will be producing efficient offensive results with Chris Paul no longer leading the half-court attack. Landing a primary scoring threat that can stretch the floor at the five-spot like Karl-Anthony Towns would go a long way.
It’s not particularly easy to find a stretch-five, in general, but let alone one quite as dynamic of a threat as Towns has shown to be. There is a real value in aggressively pursuing a relatively unique talent, especially since he’d be highly cohesive alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
There would still be more than enough left in the Thunder’s war-chest of first-round picks in upcoming NBA Drafts for them to continue to add intriguing prospects. Adding a talent like Karl-Anthony Towns would help safe-guard from complete mediocrity
