5. Golden State Warriors
One of the more talked about underachieving teams in the NBA so far this 2020-21 season has been the Golden State Warriors. Their only two wins have come against two bad teams (Chicago Bulls & Detroit Pistons)— one of which came by just one-point. So far, they have a 2-3 record.
There’s room for improvement for Stephen Curry but he’s still averaging 26.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists. He hasn’t been efficient and looks rusty after a very long layoff, but regardless, he’s far from being the Warriors’ primary issue.
Having two inefficient shot chuckers who don’t defend much in Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr. on the wing is not a viable option for a team trying to win. In particular, Oubre has been legitimately horrible offensively and his style of play doesn’t mesh with the Warriors’ half-court offense.
There doesn’t appear to be much for talent on the Warriors’ bench whatsoever either. It’s tough enough to get the job done with the starting group Golden State has around Curry, but then when the bench comes into the game for the Warriors, they’re more often than not going to create a greater disadvantage.
Klay Thompson isn’t walking through that door anytime soon. Also, Kevin Durant will never walk through that door for the Warriors ever again, either. It’s becoming very clear at this point that Golden State’s window to title contention has been slammed shut.
