How the Nuggets could trade for Raptors’ star Kyle Lowry

The Denver Nuggets are one of the more intriguing contenders in the Western Conference. Led by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, they could be NBA Finals contenders, but likely would need to add more firepower to compete with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers. Making a trade for a guy like Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry might be exactly what they need.

Lowry has been mentioned in trade rumors over the last couple of years, but the Raptors have never seriously considered moving him. That could change following the big-time contract that Toronto gave to fellow guard Fred VanVleet in the offseason.

Should the Raptors be open to moving Lowry, the Nuggets should have immediate interest. He would be a perfect back-court partner for Murray.

Last season with Toronto, Lowry ended up averaging 19.4 points per game to go along with 7.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds. He shot 41.6 percent from the floor and knocked down 35.2 percent of his three-point attempts. Those numbers show why the Nuggets should be interested.

All of that being said, what could a potential trade between the Nuggets and Raptors for Kyle Lowry look like? Let’s take a closer look.

Denver Nuggets Receive: Kyle Lowry

Toronto Raptors Receive: Gary Harris, Will Barton, 2021 1st Round Pick

Both teams would be getting some pieces that could help them immediately. The biggest name is Lowry, but both Harris and Barton are quality players as well.

Granted, the Nuggets would be giving up some depth with this trade. However, a back-court of Lowry and Murray would be lethal offensively. Lowry also has much-needed experience in the playoffs, which could come in clutch.

On the other side of the trade, the Raptors would be going all-in with VanVleet at point guard. Harris and Barton could both come in and provide depth on the wing. One of them could even end up starting for Toronto.

There is no guarantee that the Raptors will even consider dealing Lowry. But, it could make sense if they want to add more depth. They have also gotten off to a slow start to the season.

Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding the Nuggets and Raptors as the trade deadline draws closer. Both teams could be looking to make a move and Kyle Lowry would be a very intriguing piece that could be moved.
