Why the Trade Benefits the Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers have made some questionable moves in recent years. It is hard to forget their decision to sign Tobias Harris long-term over Jimmy Butler. We all know about the alleged problems in the locker room but it is hard to justify sending Butler away.
Philadelphia not only did this once but twice. Harris currently has one of the worst contracts in the NBA and is only rivaled by that of Al Horford, also given out by Philadelphia.
This trade is a chance for the front office to change the narrative around the franchise. They went from one of the worst stretches in NBA history during the mid-2010’s to being a contender in just a few years using top draft picks. Some worked out and some did not.
Markelle Fultz and Jahlil Okafor were two of the failed selections. Simmons and Embiid were able to stick around and have been leaned on to win. LaVine would provide an extra boost on both ends. He is used to playing with other stars and knows how to mesh within a team. LaVine is a true scorer at all three levels and can help Philadelphia in any way they need.
If a championship is an ultimate goal for this 76ers team, they will need help wherever they can get it. Philadelphia is once again expected to compete in the Eastern Conference and a deal such as this one would solidify their roster even further.
