Why The Trade Would Benefit The Rockets
PJ Tucker and the Rockets have been far off on contract talks recently. He is entering the final year of his deal in 2020-2021 and will earn upwards of $8 million this season. As of now, Houston has not extended their sharpshooter, which means they could be searching for a trade.
As we have said, things have changed in Houston. There is a new committee running the show and changes might not be done.
On the court, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins are the new duo to lead the way. Of course, James Harden is still there for now, but trade talks have heated up recently. The Rockets have begun speaking to other teams outside of the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers.
If the front office wants to completely reshape the roster, that means Tucker’s spot could be in danger. The fact that he is on an expiring contract will make him easy to trade because of the short-term commitment from the team he is going to.
Adding draft assets should be a priority for the Rockets and this trade would give them some much-needed pieces.
