Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Celtics

Not only can Victor Oladipo be a high-volume scorer if he remains healthy, but he was a NBA All-Star not too long ago. In back-to-back seasons from 2017-2019, Oladipo was named an All-Star and brings a lot to the table in terms of offensive efficiency.

With the addition of Oladipo, the Celtics would have four players who all have All-Star potential, which would be enough to call them one of the team’s to beat in the Eastern Conference.

Of course, it would be a significant risk for the Celtics to take on Oladipo, a guy who has only played in 130 games the last three seasons due to injuries. But, the rewards definitely outweigh the risks in this trade scenario.

The Celtics drafted Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard this year and both first-round picks are expected to have roles with the C’s this season, regardless of Romeo Langford’s health. Given Langford’s injury history, there is no added risk in trading him for Oladipo.

Both players have had their fair share of injuries, but Oladipo definitely possesses more upside than Langford and he has proven that over the course of his seven-year career.

If the Celtics are able to acquire Oladipo for a small asking price, they definitely need to pull the trigger because Oladipo has made it clear he still has a lot left to give the game of basketball and is not done proving that he is one of the top players in the league.

With Kemba Walker, Oladipo, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Tristan Thompson fully healthy and ready to go for the playoffs, the Celtics would be a team that nobody wants to face, as they would have the offensive firepower to match up with any team they play. This trade would be a huge win for GM Danny Ainge and the Celtics.
