The Golden State Warriors are in need of a replacement on the perimeter for Klay Thompson to pick up some of the scoring load. They were expected to get healthy and compete in the Western Conference this season but received some devastating news on NBA Draft night. One option that stands out is DeMar DeRozan of the San Antonio Spurs.
On the same night that Golden State made James Wiseman the second overall pick in the draft, they found out that Klay Thompson had suffered a lower leg injury. It was later confirmed that he had torn his Achilles and would miss the upcoming season. This leaves Stephen Curry alone out on the perimeter.
There is a chance the Warriors could look for another player to team up with Curry in the backcourt. If Golden State is in search of a deal, they could look to take advantage of a team looking to dump veteran players. This is where the San Antonio Spurs come in to play.
With DeMar DeRozan entering the final year of his current contract, there’s a real pathway for the Spurs to look to capitalize on his trade value. If he is interested in playing for a contender, there are a few better right now than the Warriors.
If DeRozan was sent to Golden State, it would certainly shake up the look at the top of the conference. Here is a potential deal that could get it done for both sides.
