Why the Trade Benefits the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are in that phase where they could decide to rebuild and add some young talent or look for impact players. In this trade, they are getting a bit of both to help them return to the NBA postseason.

Kendrick Nunn was one of the top rookies in the league near the beginning of the season. He would be the perfect backcourt mate for Dejounte Murray, who is the new franchise player in San Antonio. The Spurs would also get a first round pick which will help in their rebuild.

Both Andre Igoudala and Kelly Olynyk have a chance to provide experience and leadership. This is if San Antonio decides to get returns for both DeRozan and Aldridge.

San Antonio would benefit immediately from sending away a player who is on an expiring deal before it’s too late to bring in a return, especially one of DeRozan’s caliber.
