Bol Bol Will Be In Conversation For Rookie of the Year
After being on a two-way contract last year and only playing in 8 games down in the Orlando Bubble, Bol Bol is eligible to win the 2020-21 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. While many fans chastised Ben Simmons for being awarded the Rookie of the Year honors over Donovan Mitchell after the 2017-18 season, Bol Bol could wind up stealing the award from a true rookie this year.
With Mason Plumlee leaving the Nuggets this offseason, there are plenty of minutes on the table for the Nuggets at the center position and with Bol Bol being one of the only other big men on this roster, he will step up into a much bigger role during the 2020-21 season. In 9 games at Oregon in 2018, Bol averaged 21.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and shot 52% from beyond-the-arc.
Given how big and lengthy he is, it is virtually impossible to block his shot, but he will definitely block yours! It is almost unfair having a guy of his size on the court as he barely has to jump to dunk or grab a rebound.
His shooting abilities are what is really impressive for the 7’2” center. It is a small sample size but he shot 13-25 from deep at Oregon and in the NBA bubble, shot 4-9 from deep. Nobody really knows what to expect from Bol Bol this season and how the Denver Nuggets will use him, but he is a special player who can play in the paint or on the perimeter.
As a result of the production he has had in limited minutes over the years and the potential he has shown, Bol Bol is an interesting player to watch in the Rookie of the Year race this season.
