Why the Trade Benefits the Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers had hopes of contending for an NBA championship right away. During the restart, there were clear problems. The team did not have a true point guard they could trust to run the offense. This forced Paul George or Kawhi Leonard to step up into the ball-handling role.
George disappeared at times during the postseason which forced his name into some rumors. Leonard is one of the top players in the NBA. He is a winning player and one who can lead a team. The Clippers could choose to surround him with complementary players such as Hardaway Jr. and Brunson.
The Clippers gave up five first-round picks to acquire George and in this trade, they would get three back. Doc Rivers is out as head coach to it is clear that the team is interested in making some moves.
While George has declared an interest in retiring with the Clippers, he has a track record that makes it difficult to trust his loyalty. As the team showed last season, the game doesn’t translate to what people see on-paper. Does Los Angeles want to risk him departing after giving up so much to land him?
