Why the Trade Benefits the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors had a down year in 2019-20 because their team was derailed by injury. This landed them the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft where they selected James Wiseman. On the same night, Thompson’s injury was announced and it was a bittersweet night in Golden State.

Now with Klay Thompson on the shelf for the entirety of the upcoming NBA season, Golden State could look to add a perimeter threat to replace him. This is where Buddy Hield comes into play.

Hield has built a reputation as one of the top three-point shooters in the league over the last two years. He can create his own shot or be a catch-and-shoot threat. Hield fits into the Warriors’ fast style of play and would maintain Golden State’s perimeter shooting prowess with Stephen Curry.

The Warriors would also bring back Harrison Barnes in this deal. He was very effective during his days in Golden State. This deal would complete the Warriors’ rotation for the upcoming season and give them more depth when Thompson returns.
