Why This Trade Works for the Los Angeles Clippers
In the NBA bubble, the Los Angeles Clippers came up well short in their efforts to win a championship. Paul George did not consistently provide an offensive impact that resembled a superstar throughout the team’s playoff run— making it difficult to advance further.
The Clippers could form a more cohesive offensive unit around Kawhi Leonard and Bradley Beal when considering Beal embraces playing off the ball, and does it quite well. George is more than capable but prefers to run high pick-and-rolls as opposed to playing within the flow of the offense.
It would be easier for the Clippers to retain Beal than it would the Wizards to keep George long-term. There is a real appeal to playing alongside a two-time champion as in the case of Leonard all the while being located in Los Angeles.
Beal was stuck on a team with a terrible defense and a very limited amount of scoring talent around him last season. It would be a radically different situation for him to play alongside Leonard on the Clippers in many positive ways— better than playing with Russell Westbrook in Washington D.C.
