Why This Trade Works for the Washington Wizards
Being able to land a player of Paul George’s caliber is far from a simple task. The Los Angeles Clippers have little reason to trade him— meaning the Washington Wizards would need to come with a great offer. However, having an All-NBA Second-Team guard in Russell Westbrook gives Washington reason to push forward.
The Russell Westbrook pairing fworked quite well for George in Oklahoma City when cosidering he earned an All-NBA First-Team nomination. Granted, they had shortcomings in the NBA playoffs, but they’d be in the Eastern Conference this go around.
Something to consider is how the Wizards have a more capable perimeter shooting unit than what George and Westbrook played with during their time with the Thunder. That proved to be a limiting element to the star duos’ time in Oklahoma City.
There would be a concern about George having a player option for the 2021-22 season— meaning he could opt out and depart in free agency. However, there is a risk that Bradley Beal would depart some point, too.
