Russell Westbrook Averages Triple-Double For 2020-21 Season

At 32-years old, many NBA players would be on the back-half of their careers and thinking about their eventual retirement, but Russell Westbrook is still in the prime of his career and wants to win a championship. He has been an All-Star in 9 out of 12 of his NBA season and became just the second player in NBA history to average a triple-double over the course of a season in the 2016-17 season, joining the likes of “The Big O,” Hall-of-Famer Oscar Robertson. This was not good enough for Westbrook though as he went on to average a triple-double for three consecutive seasons from 2016-2019.

The streak of averaging a triple-double may have broken last season with the Houston Rockets, but will likely start again in Washington. Westbrook will likely average anywhere from 35-40 minutes a game with the Washington Wizards this upcoming season and with him likely going back to his role when he was with OKC, there is no reason why he can’t average a triple-double this upcoming year.

Bradley Beal will likely give up the role of being the primary ball-handler to Russell Westbrook, so he can play where is better at, which is off-the-ball, and Scott Brooks always found ways to succeed with Westbrook. Brooks was the head coach of the Thunder from 2009-2015 and developed a very strong relationship with Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook led the NBA in scoring during Scott Brook’s final year in OKC and should be put in situations where he can succeed once again with the Wizards. He will be the primary ball-handler, be one of the Wizards’ two primary scorers and with this team being one of the worst rebounding teams a season ago, they should have no problem with Westbrook bullying his way into the paint for every rebound.

This is why Russell Westbrook will average a triple-double over the course of the 2020-21 NBA season and honestly, could average a triple-double with Washington as long as he is there. He is going to get his points and assists in Washington no matter what and as long as they do not have a true big man, Westbrook will be the team’s leading rebounder as well.
