Why This Trade Works for the Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls are currently in the middle of the rebuilding process with plenty of reason for optimism. The team just added Patrick Williams in the 2020 NBA Draft and having Billy Donovan as head coach could help young players like Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., and Coby White to develop.
Continuing to add NBA Draft assets is something the Bulls would benefit strongly from doing. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2021 first-round selection is top-three protected— making it likely to convey next offseason after the team’s roster changes.
Perhaps most intriguing of all is the Golden State Warriors’ first-round selection in 2023. The team’s core group will be quite old by that point and Klay Thompson already has dealt with two major injuries keeping him out for a full season each.
With Zach LaVine coming close to cracking the top 10 on the NBA’s scoring leaderboard and staying healthy, his trade value is as high as it will ever be. The Bulls capitalizing on it now could be a wise decision when factoring in he has experienced two season-ending injuries earlier in his NBA career.
