Why This Trade Works for the Houston Rockets
It’s going to be difficult for the Houston Rockets to find a trade suitor for Russell Westbrook without bringing back an unfavorable return. The New York Knicks and Washington Wizards have emerged as options, but there are limitations to both potential trade partners.
The Golden State Warriors have been placed into a tough position where they want to still contend, but having Klay Thompson sidelined for another full season makes that very difficult. This is a situation that could force their hands to get creative to compete with Stephen Curry— making it at least plausible to entertain a deal centered around Westbrook.
There are concerns with the skill-set that Andrew Wiggins brings to the table but he’s at least under contract for a much cheaper deal than Westbrook. With him set to turn just 26-years-old later this season, that aligns more with a rebuild.
This scenario would largely depend on the Warriors’ perception of Westbrook. Having his salary under contract for the following two seasons could raise some justifiable concerns, but having two elite shooters alongside him with a rim roller center could work.
