Derrick Rose, Detroit Pistons
Since winning the 2010-11 NBA MVP award, Derrick Rose has not been the same player he once was due to some significant knee injuries. After leaving the Chicago Bulls in 2016, Derrick Rose has been trying to find a spot in the NBA where he can prove to everyone that he still can play at a high-level.
In the last two years with the Timberwolves and the Pistons, Rose has revitalized his career and while he was not the explosive scorer he once was, he can easily be a starting point guard and be a factor on a championship-caliber roster. This is exactly why the Los Angeles Clippers should make a move to bring in the former league MVP.
Last season with the Pistons, Derrick Rose averaged 18.1 points, 5.6 assists and shot 49.0% from the floor. If the Clippers were to go after Derrick Rose, they would definitely look to move Patrick Beverley. Not only is Beverly not much of a factor offensively, but he is owed $27.6M over the course of the next two years. Pat Bev is one of the better defensive guards in the league, but in a league where scoring dominates and is something that the Clippers need drastically, it would make sense for the 32-year old defensive mastermind to be on the move.
With both Lou Williams and Derrick Rose, the Clippers would have two reliable veterans in their backcourt who would provide a lot of stability for the entire roster. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are the two main scorers on this Clippers roster, but Derrick Rose is a sneaky play to be the third scorer on this team.
Assuming he can stay healthy, Rose has proved over the years he can still play at a high-level, and next to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Rose would not have to push himself to the point of injury. He could play at his own pace and be a great addition to a predominantly veteran team who remains one of the favorites to win the 2021 NBA Championship.
