5 teams who may have made a mistake in the 2020 NBA Draft

Even though the 2020 NBA Draft was done virtually with no fans screaming and shouting after every pick, it almost felt like you could still hear each fan base after commissioner Adam Silver announced each pick. Overall, this draft class is very well-rounded and while they may not have the star power of past draft classes, there are some very solid rookies that will be key contributors and role players for years to come.

Before we dive into the teams who may have made mistakes in the draft, can we take a moment to appreciate what the Philadelphia 76ers did on draft day? Not only did they draft Tyrese Maxey (Pick No. 21), Isaiah Joe (Pick No. 49) and Paul Reed (Pick No. 58), but they traded away Al Horford and Josh Richardson for Seth Curry, Danny Green and Terrance Ferguson. Doc Rivers and President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, are going all-in on this 76ers team with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid at the forefront of the roster.

The Clippers and Pistons also made some noise during the draft when they were involved in a three-team trade with the Brooklyn Nets that sent Landry Shamet to the Nets, Luke Kennard to the Clippers and Saddiq Bey (Pick No. 19) and Rodney McGruder to the Detroit Pistons. This was one of many positive moves the Pistons made on draft night as they flipped their roster around and are fully committed to rebuilding for the future success of their organization.

While many teams have a lot of positives to take away from the 2020 NBA Draft, a handful of teams definitely have some question marks surrounding their draft picks.

While they all of these picks may turn out just fine and make all of us analysts look dumb, there are five teams in particular who may have made a mistake on draft night, so let’s take a look and examine who could have done better.
