The Oklahoma City Thunder have been arguably the most active team in trade talks so far this NBA offseason. They aren’t done yet either. Now, they are working on a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo, the Thunder and Timberwolves are in talks for a trade centered around the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
The only 1st round selection the Oklahoma City Thunder hold in the 2020 NBA Draft currently is the No. 25 selection. The trade with the Philadelphia 76ers centered around Al Horford brought in a 1st round pick, but it was for the 2025 NBA Draft.
A league source tells NBA Analysis Network that one prospect to watch if the Thunder acquire the No. 17 pick is Tyrell Terry. Oklahoma City attended an in-person workout and was impressed with him as a prospect between his added muscle and shooting stroke. There will be other options as well.

The Thunder have managed to build an impressive collection of future 1st round picks. It will be fascinating to see if Oklahoma City ends up attempting to invest more in the 2020 NBA Draft given how next year’s class is supposed to be much stronger.
There is a fine line Oklahoma City Thunder will need to be careful about not crossing when it comes to bottoming completely out. They are still going to have to keep players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander engaged with winning basketball games.
