Rockets, Wizards have discussed trade for Russell Westbrook

The Houston Rockets have been searching for a potential suitor around the NBA for a Russell Westbrook trade. The Washington Wizards appear to be a legitimate possibility— featuring the inclusion of John Wall.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Rockets and Wizards have discussed a trade centered on a Westbrook for Wall swap. Houston is seeking more assets.

The Wizards appear to be an ideal landing spot for Westbrook when considering they have a point guard also on an unfavorable contract in Wall. Washington may actually be the only team in the NBA to have a worse point guard contract than Houston.

There is a need for Bradley Beal to receive more help in the supporting cast to solidify his future with the Wizards. The options are very limited unless Wall’s contract can be involved— making a trade with the Rockets for Westbrook a highly intriguing possibility.

Before the NBA suspended its season in March, Russell Westbrook was quickly rising in the MVP ladder. He struggled in the bubble after coming off a quad injury and that seems to be what most remembered about his recent performance.

The Houston Rockets appear headed for a rebuild if they give into James Harden’s desire to be traded elsewhere. John Wall coming off an Achilles injury could provide short-term help to Harden as the Rockets attempt to repair the team’s relationship with its superstar.

The potential pairing of Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal with the Washington Wizards certainly would be enough to push for a playoff appearance in the Eastern Conference. Especially if they added more to its supporting cast.
