Charlotte Hornets ‘most likely’ team to trade for Russell Westbrook

The Houston Rockets could end up trading Russell Westbrook this NBA offseason after he requested to be moved. One team that has remained a potential suitor for the perennial All-Star is the Charlotte Hornets.

According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Hornets have emerged as the ‘most likely’ trade destination for Westbrook.

The market for Westbrook has been underwhelming for the Rockets— making the All-Star guard quite attainable for the Hornets. That will enable them to not have to include the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft in order to execute a potential trade.

The idea of acquiring Westbrook is quite justifiable for the Hornets as long as they stand firm not including the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. They face a real need for an established star if they hope to become a playoff contender next season—- something Westbrook would provide.

The Hornets can remain patient with the process since the NBA trade market won’t be robust for Russell Westbrook. Standing firm on not including such a high NBA Draft selection could eventually get a deal done.

Russell Westbrook produced a solid season for the Houston Rockets— recording averages of 27.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. He emerged as one of the NBA’s top players prior to the NBA shut down in March but struggled in the bubble playing through a quad injury.
