Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets have verbal agreement on James Harden trade

The Houston Rockets have been put into a position to potentially trade James Harden after he made it known he wants to play with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets— forming the NBA’s next superteam.

According to Front Office Sports’ Anthony Puccio, multiple sources believe the Nets and Rockets have a ‘verbal agreement’ on a trade for Harden to send him to Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets are nearing a deal to send James Harden to Brooklyn, according to multiple sources close to FOS.

The deal isn’t “official”, but sources say a deal is in place and the two teams have a “verbal agreement.” Harden declined a two-year, $103 million extension with the Rockets so he could force a trade to Brooklyn.

The Nets must be prepared to make a substantial trade package to the Rockets in order to land Harden via trade. The Rockets need to be incentivized to move on from a perennial MVP candidate who is under contract through 2022-23.

With a variety of intriguing players like Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Jarrett Allen, the Nets could compose an intriguing trade package— when considering they can offer substantial NBA Draft compensation over the course of many years.

If the Brooklyn Nets do indeed swing a trade for James Harden, the Eastern Conference will be put on notice. A team with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and now Harden will be enough to overwhelm many opposing teams in head-to-head matchups with such hefty offensive firepower.
