The Miami Heat are coming off a run to the NBA Finals but came up short of winning the championship. The team will look to improve the roster to win it all during the upcoming season— possibility using a trade for this key Houston Rockets player.
According to Five Reasons Sports’ Greg Sylvander, the Heat have ‘checked in’ on the trade availability of PJ Tucker.
With the Rockets headed for what could be a full-roster teardown after James Harden and Russell Westbrook both want to be traded, veteran players like PJ Tucker, Robert Covington, and Eric Gordon could be quite appealing trade targets for contenders.
The skill-set Tucker possesses should be particularly intriguing to the Heat. He’s a stocky forward that can not only guard multiple positions, but can knock down catch-and-shoot jumpers with a speciality for the corners. For a team that needs shooting and embraces defense, that’s an ideal pairing.

Perhaps most fascinating of all for the Heat is that Tucker is on an expiring deal worth $7.97 million during the upcoming NBA season. That wouldn’t negatively impact Miami’s ability to make a run at superstar talents like Giannis Antetokounmpo next offseason.
PJ Tucker is coming off a season featuring averages of 6.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals. He has played a variety of different roles over the last few seasons— ranging from small ball forward to being the center in a micro-ball lineup. That level of versatility would bring the Miami Heat a real boost and maximize their lineup combinations.
