The Phoenix Suns sent shockwaves throughout the NBA after finalizing a trade for Oklahoma City Thunder star Chris Paul— forming an intriguing duo with Devin Booker.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Suns are trading the Thunder a trade package consisting of Kelly Oubre Jr., Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, Jalen Lecque, and a 2022 1st round pick in exchange for Paul and Ty Jerome.
Perhaps most interesting of all is how the Suns did not send the Thunder the No. 10 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, or intriguing young talents like Mikal Bridges or Cam Johnson. The terms of this deal seem quite favorable for both parties involved when considering the circumstances.
The Suns appear to be set at the four spot despite Oubre Jr.’s departure if their plans are executed ideally. Phoenix reportedly wants to bring back Dario Saric and they also achieved real success with Cam Johnson playing stretches as a small-ball power forward.

The combination of attributes that Paul brings to the table is highly intriguing for the Suns. He displayed with the Thunder he can still run an offense as a floor general with his elite passing ability. He also is still a high-level defender with legitimate shot creation capabilities.
The pairing of Chris Paul and Devin Booker in the same backcourt would be quite an intriguing possibility. An elite facilitator with a great scorer with both players checking plenty of other boxes could help lead the Phoenix Suns back to the playoffs for the first time since the Steve Nash era.
