The Los Angeles Lakers will look to improve their roster to gear up to defend their NBA title. One option that has been linked as a potential trade option has been San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan.
During an interview with Showtime Sports, DeRozan addressed the rumor about the Lakers’ interest in trading for him—- expressing he’s flattered by it.
“You’d better feel good about it because there are some motherfu*kers that’s not wanted…Especially me, being from LA, it’s like damn, my hometown team want me? (The Lakers) just came off a championship, and they want me?”
The Spurs appear to be headed for a needed rebuild. San Antonio simply can no longer compete in the Western Conference with how many ascending teams there are who built through the NBA Draft. As a result, keeping DeRozan doesn’t make sense.

If DeRozan chooses to opt-in for his $27.7 million player option, the Spurs would have the option of trading him to whichever team they choose. However, DeRozan could opt-out to facilitate a sign-and-trade to land particularly with the Lakers if there’s interest all-around.

The Lakers, on the other hand, are in full-fledged title contention and need all the help they can get to maximize their chances of a successful run. DeRozan would provide a needed secondary playmaker to complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
It will be fascinating to see how the Los Angeles Lakers manage to complete their supporting cast around its superstars during the NBA offseason. DeMar DeRozan will certainly be on the list of potential options.
