Russell Westbrook wants to be traded from Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets have already experienced an NBA offseason that has featured no shortage of key changes— starting with Mike D’Antoni and Daryl Morey. Will James Harden and Russell Westbrook be next up on the list?

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Westbrook ‘wants out’ of Houston— likely prompting the Rockets to pursue the trade route.

Ever since Tilman Fertitta has taken over as owner of the Rockets, the organization has been trending in the direction. Houston appears in need of undergoing a major rebuild featuring both Harden and Westbrook being traded for assets.

The Rockets attempted to win with Harden and Westbrook together and came up short. Running it back seemed like a more than viable option, but the superstar guard potentially may not be satisfied with the changes the organization has experienced this NBA offseason.

There appears to be a variety of different landing spots for Westbrook but it will depend on what the Rockets seek in a potential trade. If Fertitta prefers attempting to win by re-tooling around Harden, trading Westbrook to the Clippers for veteran pieces would be a logical choice.

There are some Eastern Conference fringe-playoff contenders that would benefit strongly from trading for Westbrook. The former MVP has shown to be able to carry a team to the NBA playoffs as the lone superstar and could certainly get that done again in a weaker conference.

It will be fascinating to see which NBA organizations pursue a trade for Russell Westbrook during the offseason. He had a very strong stretch of performance prior to the suspension of the season and still has plenty left in the tank at an elite level.
