Why the Detroit Pistons Should Do It
The Detroit Pistons should capitalize on Derrick Rose’s value and trade him this offseason, rather than at the trade deadline when he has less time remaining on his contract.
Rose is more valuable now than he would be as a two-month rental at the 2021 NBA trade deadline. It’s just a matter of finding the best offer from Detroit’s perspective and this would be a good one.
The Pistons could build around Kyle Kuzma, in an offseason where there are questions about Blake Griffin’s future and Christian Wood is an unrestricted free agent.
Kuzma should be able to flourish in Detroit, as he’d have a bigger role than he’s set to have with the Lakers playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Kuzma had his best season in 2018-19, when he played in 33.1 minutes per game and averaged 18.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The Pistons would also add a veteran guard in Green with championship experience, and another first round pick. With this hypothetical, the Pistons would hold picks No. 7 and No. 28 in this month’s draft.
