Why the Los Angeles Lakers Should Do It
The Lakers won the 2020 title, but that doesn’t mean they’re content for 2021. Los Angeles will pursue another title, and they’ll presumably exhaust options to improve as well.
In LaVine, the Lakers hypothetically land a young star to put alongside James and Davis. LaVine is still just 25, so he can come in and benefit from James’ wealth of knowledge.
LaVine can average 25 points per game when he’s been healthy in his career. Part of the beauty of LaVine landing with the Lakers is he would not have to carry the load. He’s capable of it if needed, but James and Davis are clearly options one and two for the Lakers.
LaVine is under contract for two more years and can reach free agency at age 27, in 2022. This is the caliber of talent the Lakers should pursue to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis when considering their available resources.
