An important part of the NBA Draft process is getting to know a player as a person before using a premier selection. Confidence is one of the requirements for any legend of the game and Anthony Edwards certainly doesn’t lack any of that.

When discussing who his NBA player comparison is for his skill-set, Edwards gave a very confident reply, to say the least. The elite NBA Draft prospect named legend Dwayne Wade as his choice.

“His name is Dwayne Wade. I look on the TV and say I can be that guy or I can be better than him.”

There certainly are flashes of Wade when watching Edwards play. However, that’s all they are at this point; flashes. The potential No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft has a lot of refining to his game that needs to be made before he can play at the level Wade was able to achieve.

One of the elements that Wade such a great player in his career was his ability to use change-of-pace at a high-level. Nobody could speed up Wade, he was always smooth operating under his own accord and used that with his lightning-quick burst to get to the rim often.

A closer comparison for Edwards appears to be Victor Oladipo— both players who have more of a straight-line drive kind of game. It’s important to not discount the sophistication that Dwayne Wade brought to the game, but regardless, Edwards is a top player in this year’s NBA Draft.

It will be fascinating to see if Anthony Edwards can manage to fine-tune his shooting mechanics to become a more consistent threat. He struggled with a lack of efficiency in many key areas during his lone season at Georgia. The team he lands with in the NBA Draft will play an important role in his success.
