Why the 76ers Should Do It
If James Harden’s going to be traded, the 76ers seem like the most logical landing spot after Daryl Morey joined their front office.
Harden is a superstar, one of the top players in the league and the type of talent who can transform a franchise.
We’ve seen over the past seven years how he put Houston on the map after he was given the chance to have his own team.
But it’s the Morey connection here that would push a deal across the finish line if it were to get done. Players of Harden’s caliber aren’t available often (and he may not be). But if he is, the Sixers should do whatever they can to acquire Harden.
The toughest part for Philly is both choosing which one Embiid or Simmons they’d rather keep, and then seeing what Houston’s preference is between the two. What if the Sixers want to keep Embiid, but the Rockets draw a line in the sand and refuse a deal without Embiid’s inclusion?
Acquiring a superstar is never easy, and this would be no different. But the 76ers likely have the star power to match Houston’s preference either way.
