Heat Part With Prized Asset
Heat acquire Victor Oladipo
Pacers acquire Tyler Herro, Kelly Olynyk
The Heat would only be persuaded into this deal if there are multiple competitive offers for Oladipo, and even then it may be a reach. But for Indiana, it would be a win to receive a player with Herro’s potential in exchange for one season of Oladipo.
If the Pacers are intent on acquiring Herro in an Oladipo trade, that could prove to be a deal breaker for Miami. After all, Oladipo is set to be a free agent in 2021, when he could just join the Heat.
But as we’ve seen in the past, just because something seems like a foregone conclusion doesn’t mean it actually happens (Does Paul George to the Lakers ring a bell?). So it may be a risky bet for Miami to just assume they’d land Oladipo in 2021.
This deal could be the best return Miami could offer for Oladipo. But trading Herro, a young cost effective asset, is a lot to ask of Miami, even for Oladipo.
