Rajon Rondo Can Depart As A Free Agent
Rajon Rondo played well with the Lakers, and was able to add to his trophy case.
Rondo then declined his player option for the 2020-21 season, which would’ve paid him just $2.6 million. It’s a prudent business move on Rondo’s part, and it was absolutely within his right to do so.
But it means the Lakers need to consider replacements in the backcourt.
Los Angeles could replace one veteran guard with another, if Rondo departs. Derrick Rose could step in and play much of the role Rondo played, and he’s a trusted veteran who has played in meaningful games before.
The Lakers could also see departures of Avery Bradley and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope along with Rondo. But Rose could come in as a good fit and one of the replacements for next season.
