Rationale for Utah Jazz
If the Utah Jazz believes they are stuck in the mud when it comes to being able to contend with their current group, it would make sense to shake things up. Regardless, the focus would still need to remain on building around Donovan Mitchell.
Trading away Rudy Gobert using this particular route would raise some issues. He is a critical element of a Jazz defense that routinely is among the best in the NBA. Trading him would surely result in substantial regression, especially for this particular trade package.
Simply put, moving on from the centerpiece of the defense in favor of a solid starting wing that hasn’t quite been the same since a major injury would be tough to justify from Utah’s perspective.
Additionally, it’s difficult to envision Gordon Hayward wanting to stay with the Jazz after he decided to depart during his first stint with the organization. The No. 14 pick isn’t all that enticing of an asset when considering the 2020 NBA Draft is a weak class and it’s at the end of the lottery.
It seems the Jazz would be best served looking at a different trade package if they were to trade Rudy Gobert. The Celtics have alternative offerings that could be sought after from Utah, but other teams also have logical fitting pieces to formulate a trade package, too.
