Miami Heat acquire Blake Griffin

Detroit Pistons acquire Andre Iguodala, Bam Adebayo, and *Kelly Olynyk.

Notice the asterisk on Kelly Olynyk. As of now, Miami’s best chance to match Griffin’s $34.4 million salary in a trade to Detroit could hinge on whether Olynyk opts in to the final year of his four-year, $50 million contract.

Olynyk is due $13.2 million on his option if he exercises the player option.

In February, before the pandemic struck, Olynyk was asked about his upcoming player option.

“For me this year, obviously it’s my decision, and I have that power, and you’re going to use it when you have it,” he said.

The trade would also see the Heat part with Andre Iguodala’s salary, and perhaps most importantly, the potential of Bam Adebayo.
