Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons is going to be a name to keep a close eye on this offseason. He will be mentioned in trade rumors as the 76ers look to take the next step and possibly make some major changes. Could the Portland Trail Blazers be a team to keep an eye on?

Bleacher Report certainly seems to think so. They have named Simmons as a perfect trade target for the Trail Blazers this offseason.

Here is some of their explanation for why a trade for Simmons could make perfect sense.

For Portland, this would purely be a talent play. Simmons’ refusal to shoot jumpers would cause problems similar to those he has faced in Philadelphia, but the presence of Damian Lillard would certainly alleviate them.

Simmons may not end up being on the trade block, but if he is, this kind of move would make a lot of sense for both teams.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the 76ers, Simmons ended up averaging 16.4 points per game to go along with 8.0 assists and 7.8 rebounds. He shot 58 percent from the floor, but only knocked down 62.1 percent of his foul shots.

At just 24 years old, Simmons could be a perfect running mate for Damian Lillard with the Trail Blazers. C.J. McCollum would likely be moved in a deal for Simmons, but adding a player who can get to the rim and create for his teammates would be ideal for Portland.

A duo of Simmons and Lillard could take the Trail Blazers to serious contention in the Western Conference. For the 76ers, they would be adding a more dynamic scoring and shooting guard in McCollum who would fit better alongside Joel Embiid.

This is something to keep an eye on as the offseason gets started. Both the 76ers and Trail Blazers will look to make some moves and Ben Simmons could be an intriguing name to monitor.
