NBA Trade Candidate No. 5– Jrue Holiday, New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans are in a precarious position. They narrowly missed the playoffs in the bubble, and Alvin Gentry lost his job as a result.

Such is life with the heightened expectations of having the No. 1 pick, Zion Williamson, on the roster.

Similarly to Gordon, if the Pelicans are going to move Holiday, it would be better to do it now rather than waiting. Holiday’s contract is guaranteed next season at $25 million, and then he has a player option he can pick up after the 2021 season, for $26 million.

The direction of New Orleans’ roster may depend on who their next coach is. We know the Pelicans are expected to contend, but it remains to be seen if Holiday, at 30 years-old, is part of their plan.
