3 players the Boston Celtics could trade for this offseason

On paper, the Boston Celtics had arguably one of the best rosters in the NBA bubble in Orlando. Once the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated, it seemed that the Celtics’ road to the Finals could’ve been a smooth trip.

However, Boston was on a collision course with a red-hot Miami Heat team that had Finals aspirations of its own. Now, as the Celtics watch the Heat take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, Boston is left to wonder how it can retool for the 2020-21 season.

Much of Boston’s offseason hinges on the expectation that Gordon Hayward will exercise his player option by Oct. 17. If Hayward does opt-in, as many expect, Boston will be on the hook for his $34.1 million base salary for next season.

But depending on which players Boston would be willing to part with in a trade, there could be options for Danny Ainge to retool the roster. This is especially relevant if internal confidence in the current roster has waned.

There are a few key veterans that Boston could bring in as a way to infuse new energy into the roster. It may require sending familiar faces out of town, but for a team that came up short of its title expectations, changes may be necessary.

With that in mind, here are three players the Celtics could try to acquire this offseason.
