The Trade:
Knicks Receive: Russell Westbrook
Rockets Receive: Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Dennis Smith Jr., 2020 First-Round Pick, 2020 First-Round Pick via Clippers, 2022 First-Round Pick
Obviously, this trade would take a lot for the Knicks to pull off. Quite a few fans in New York would not be happy to give up this kind of value for Westbrook.
While the fans may not love it, the Knicks are desperate to add a superstar. Westbrook may not be an elite superstar, but he is a superstar nonetheless. The Rockets and Knicks would likely both be intrigued by this trade, although they may not pull the trigger.
For the Rockets, trading Westbrook should be a very real possibility. If they can get a couple of young pieces in Barrett and Smith Jr., while also adding a talented power forward in Randle, they should consider it. Adding three first-round picks makes this an even more obvious move for the Rockets to make.
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with the Knicks and Rockets this offseason. The two sides may not come together on a trade, but Westbrook to New York seems to make a ton of sense.
Westbrook would be back to being the focal point of the franchise, which he thoroughly enjoyed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, the Knicks would need to have a plan to bring in talent around him. If they can make that happen, this deal should be a go.
Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding the Rockets, Knicks, and Russell Westbrook this offseason. Both teams are expected to be active and a mutual trade like this could be something they have interest in.
