The Boston Celtics are going to look to make some moves this offseason and Gordon Hayward could be involved. One of the intriguing trade candidates that has been mentioned for Boston is Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner.
Jared Weiss of The Athletic opened up a bit more and suggested that the Celtics could trade Hayward to the Pacers in a deal for Turner. He also mentioned that Victor Oladipo wants out from Indiana.
Hayward won’t be opting out of his contract unless he has a long-term extension in place, which will be hard for a 30-year-old with a concerning injury history. Indiana is still home for the Haywards, and with Victor Oladipo looking to move on this offseason, according to sources, and Myles Turner possibly in the same boat, there could be an opportunity for Ainge to move Hayward and the abundance of draft picks in his war chest in a mutually agreeable way.
Could the Celtics look to make a deal that would bring both Oladipo and Turner to the team? That would be an intriguing deal. The Pacers may be looking to make both players available this offseason and moving them both in blockbuster with Boston could make sense.
Hayward would be a very intriguing addition for the Pacers. If they have to move on from Oladipo, Hayward could become the focal point of their offense.
During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Celtics, Hayward ended up averaging 17.5 points per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He shot 50 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from the three-point line.
More than likely, the Celtics would be looking to prioritize Turner over Oladipo. A straight-up swap of Hayward and Turner would make perfect sense.
Both of these teams are going to look to make moves this offseason. The Celtics came up just short in the Eastern Conference Finals and the Pacers were swept in the first round. Coming together on a trade would make a lot of sense.
Expect to hear more Gordon Hayward to the Pacers rumors this offseason. The Celtics seem very open to moving him and this could be a perfect way to do it.
