NBA Rumors: Mavericks interested in signing Montrezl Harrell in free agency

While there may not be high-profile names hitting the NBA free agency market this offseason, there are some quality role players that teams will have the opportunity to bring in. Montrezl Harrell is one of those names. It appears that the Dallas Mavericks will be one of the teams with interest in him.

According to a report from Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated, the Mavericks do have interest in pursing Harrell this offseason when free agency opens.

Harrell is going to be a highly sought after free agent this offseason. He isn’t a star and he won’t win a championship for a franchise, but his energy, rebounding, and defense are without question intriguing for any team.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Harrell ended up averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. He shot 58 percent from the floor on the year. Those numbers would look for the Mavericks alongside Kristaps Porzingis.

At just 26 years old, Harrell is the kind of piece that a team can add on a four-year deal. He has the ability to score in the paint and rebounds with the best of them. From an energy perspective, Harrell can be infectious, which is exactly what the Mavericks need.

Dallas was a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference this season. They ended up with a 43-32 record and competed well with the Clippers in the playoffs. Harrell could be the missing piece for the Mavericks.

Quite a few teams will be lined up with interest in the energetic power forward. He will have quite a few choices when deciding where to play the next chapter of his career. Returning to the Clippers is also an option.

Expect to see the Mavericks look to bring in an upgrade at the power forward position this offseason. Montrezl Harrell would be a perfect target and it wouldn’t be shocking to see this end up happening.
