
No matter how this season ends for the Los Angeles Lakers, the offseason will force the front office to make changes. For starters, what will Anthony Davis do? While not a free agent, Davis does have a Player Option he can exercise. If the team does fail to win a title, this could be it for the duo of LeBron James and Davis.
The Lakers’ roster is filled with two stars and players who know their roles. But how can the front office continue a tradition of winning, especially when they will enter the offseason strapped for cash? To add a third star, the Lakers will need to shed serious money off the books.
Then they have to take into account– the LeBron issue. He’s not getting any younger and has a reputation for leaving teams hanging and influencing management’s job.
The agenda for the front office should be solid role players who will come to Los Angeles for cheap. This has been the norm for James. Get him superstar help then fill the roster out with cheap veterans and a few young players. There will be superstar talent in the 2020 free agency class but will those players be willing to take a pay cut to don the Purple & Gold?
With that being said, let’s take a look at three early potential offseason targets for the Los Angeles Lakers
