Stephen A. Smith reveals intriguing thoughts on J.R. Smith to Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers learned that they would be resuming the 2019-20 NBA season in Orlando without veteran guard Avery Bradley. It is a big loss for the team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Many believe that the Lakers could turn to LeBron James’ former teammate, J.R. Smith.

Rumors have been swirling about Smith since Bradley opted out. It makes a ton of sense and even Stephen A. Smith seems completely on board with the move.

In a recent quote from Smith on First Take, Stephen A. talked about why Smith might just be a perfect fit for the Lakers.

“I think that J.R. Smith, believe it or not, can do almost everything that Avery Bradley can do. In some instances, even better.”

Smith would be a very intriguing addition for the Lakers. His history with James certainly makes this seem more likely. He also can shoot the ball at a high level and is a very underrated defender.

So far this season, Smith has sat out and awaited the right opportunity. Last season with the Cavaliers, he only played in 11 games. Back in 2017-18 with James, however, he had a big role and averaged 8.3 points per game to go along with 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Los Angeles would be wise to make this move. The Lakers are currently viewed as a favorite to win the NBA Finals. Adding Smith to replace Bradley would be a solid step in that direction.
